So you see, it is a system in crisis. All along the way, we are bumping up limits.
というわけで、このシステムは危機に瀕しています。至る所で限界にぶつかってるんです。

From changing climate to declining happiness, it’s just not working.
異常気象から幸福度の低下まで、問題だらけです。

But the good thing about such an all pervasive problem

is that there are so many points of intervention.
介入の糸口がいっぱいあることです。

There are people working here on saving forests and here on clean production:
すでに様々な人々が、森林を守る活動や、公害を出さない製造、

Labor rights, fair trade, conscious consuming blocking landfills and incinerators
労働者の権利、公正な貿易、賢明な消費、ゴミ埋立や焼却の阻止、

and, very importantly, taking back our government.
そして非常に重大な、政府奪回などの活動をしています。

So that it really is by the people and for the people.
これは本当に、人民による、人民のための活動です。

All this work is critically important but things really start moving
こういう活動は極度に重要なものですが、物事が本当に動きだすのは

when we see the connections, when we see the big picture.
私たちがそのつながりを理解し、全体像を把握したときです。

When people along this system get united, we can reclaim and transform this linear system
このシステムに関わっている人みんなが一体になれば、この直線型のシステムを変化させ

into something new, a system that doesn’t waste resources or people.
資源も人間も荒廃させないものに作り変えていくことができるんです。

You see, what we really need to chuck is this old-school throw-away mindset.
何よりも捨てる必要があるのは、この「使い捨て」という旧式の考え方なんですね。

There’s a new school of thinking on this stuff and it’s based on sustainability and equity.
物についての新式の考え方は、持続可能性と公平さが基本になっています。

Things like: Green Chemistry, Zero Waste, Closed Loop Production,
たとえば「環境に優しい化学」とか、「循環型」とか、「閉ループ形生産」とか、

Renewable Energy, Local living Economies.
「再生可能エネルギー」とか、「地域生活経済」とか。

It’s already started. Some say it’s unrealistic, that it can’t happen
その活動はもう始まっています。これを非現実的だと言う人もいますが

But I say the ones who are unrealistic are those who think we can continue with the old way.
私に言わせれば、古いやり方をいつまでも続けていけると思ってる人たちの方こそ非現実的です。

They’re dreaming.
彼らは夢を見てるんです。

Remember that old way didn’t just happen. It’s not like gravity that we just gotta live with
古いやり方は自然発生したんじゃないことを思い出してください。耐えるしかない重力なんかとは違うんです。

People created it. And we are people too. So let’s create something new.
人間が作ったものなんです。私たちも人間です。みんなでもっと良いものを作りましょうよ。
